The Special Education PRC helps families:
-Become familiar with the special education process in Isle of Wight County Schools
-Learn about their rights and responsibilities according to the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
-Develop skills to become an effective member of their child's educational team
-Understand how to begin planning for their child's future (Transition)
-Borrow materials for home use (We have a lending library of games/materials for PK through 5th/6th grade, in Reading and Math primarily, as well as games/activities for Social-Emotional development.)
-Become informed about community resources and parent events
-Learn about information on workshops and training sessions provided for parents by the PRC or other community agencies.
For the 2021-2022 School Year, the PRC is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7:15am- 2:45pm), following the school calendar. I am available at other days/times, by appointment, as well, just email me and we can work something out. Masks are currently optional inside the building.
I am here for parents to come in for additional information; to check-out /return material; or to talk about concerns/questions regarding the special education process. I will listen and help as much as I can. The monthly Parent Workshops will hopefully return next school year. The PRC is closed at times due to unforeseen circumstances (illness, conferences, etc.).

In this FREE 5-week online program, families of children with disabilities learn about supporting their child’s early learning and development – from developmental milestones to tips on our most frequently asked questions including information on making the transition from early intervention to school services easier.

June 6 - July 1 (Session 1)PEATC, in collaboration with the VDOE, invites families to join us in our newest online training course, Building Strong Parent Advocates. Families of children receiving special education services find themselves in a world filled with complicated policies, confusing acronyms and terms, and piles of paperwork. Often families find themselves looking for information and background knowledge to help them better support their children through the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
The Building Strong Parent Advocates training provides information to help families build a solid foundation to understand the special education process while empowering them to be their child’s best advocate. The training will take approximately 6 hours, and can be accessed anytime during your preferred month-long session below.
